20/05: Ecosystem Services: An instrument for the valorization of rural territories
2BForest, Associação Florestal Entre Douro e Vouga and Consulai organize the event “Ecosystem Services - an instrument for the valorization of rural territories”, in partnership with the Municipality of Arouca and the Geopark, on May 20th, at the Auditoria de Arouca, with a visit to areas certified for 2BForest's ecosystem services.
This event aims to raise awareness of a central theme for the competitiveness of rural areas and, therefore, for Portuguese society as a whole.
In Arouca, the first project to certify ecosystem services in certified forest areas was developed, which are being valued by the market, making it a distinctive case that makes sense to highlight.
The challenges we face in land management and the mechanisms that support active forest management are undeniable. It is essential to increasingly pursue this path of valuing and financially supporting the services rural communities provide for society as a whole (carbon sequestration, water purification, biodiversity preservation, ecosystem pollination, etc.). Given the developments we are witnessing at the European level, we believe this is an opportune moment to hear from a number of individuals from various sectors of the national economy about the alternatives we have and how we can evolve.
The "round table" integrated into the event program aims to provide the perspective of experts in the areas of banking, the University, communication, the carbon market, the business sector and the municipal sector, with the presence of the Mayor, on how natural heritage contributes to the development of the Municipality of Arouca.
During the event there will be an action to recognize and thank the sponsors and initiatives that have already supported this project.
