Fairshare project: Cross visit User-Case ForestSIM

2BFOREST welcomes a delegation of consultants from the agroforestry sector to Portugal, as part of the H2020 FAIRShare project

From October 24th to 26th, 2BFOREST received in Portugal 12 agricultural and forestry consultants, of 6 different nationalities and with the participation of #FSCPortugal and of the #CEF – Center for Forestry Studies, of the Higher Institute of Agronomy, #ISA, integrated into the European project #H2020_Fairshare.

During the visit, participants had the opportunity to present their case studies and discuss the tools they use and/or have developed to facilitate their work and also seek to find joint solutions.

During the three-day visit, we had the opportunity to learn about the management challenges of the 2B_Forest_Group, as well as demonstrate how #ForestSIM facilitates communication and joint work between the team #2BFOREST and the owners #agroforestry certificates.

Participants were also able to discover Herdade das Sesmarias da Batalha, in Alcácer do Sal, a property that has been part of the 2BFOREST certification group since 2018, whose typically Alentejo landscape of cork and holm oak forests was the setting for learning and a tasting of regional products organized in collaboration with several local companies.

The visit was part of the FAIRshare project, which aims to encourage the use of digital tools in the sector #agroforestry in order to make it more efficient and sustainable, Fairshare Project (h2020fairshare.eu).

Watch the video:

In an increasingly digital world, agriculture and forestry are expected to keep pace with technological developments and benefit from their advantages. However, issues such as technological illiteracy and a lack of digital support infrastructure are cited as some of the bottlenecks preventing rural communities from embracing these innovations. This is where the role of local businesses/entities in initiatives like FAIRshare becomes crucial: serving as a primary communication bridge between the various stakeholders. stakeholders of the sector and rural and agricultural owners and managers.

The project has nine main objectives, including:

  • inventory the Digital Advisory Tools (#DATs) and existing decision support services across the European Union;

  • identify the obstacles that affect the acceptance, use and sharing of these digital tools;

  • identify the issues arising from the adoption of new DATS in different agricultural contexts and;

  • expand the use of technologies by European consultants in different contexts.

FAIRshare also aims to create dynamic learning experiences for its participants that lead to finding better digital solutions for their businesses.

In this sense, in 2022, several visits are being organized in several countries between the participants and partners in the project with the aim of sharing the difficulties encountered by each one in using digital tools in their daily lives and crossing similar experiences through Cross Visits.
