New National Framework: 1st Certification of the Water Service, within the scope of FSC® Ecosystem Services

In an innovative effort to promote sustainable forest management and its relationship with water, 2BForest announces the achievement of the first certification in Portugal in the field of certification of ecosystem services related to water.

“Water is a vital resource, and the certification of ecosystem services for water, implemented by 2BForest, aims to encourage the responsible and sustainable management of river basins in Portugal.”
This initiative is a significant milestone in 2BForest's approach towards promoting and valuing sustainable forest management, and its relationship with the quality of ecosystem services provided, impacting the health of society!
Over the past few decades, growing awareness of the importance of ecosystem services for water quality and availability has led organizations and society to seek ways to recognize and reward sustainable practices. The FSC®, internationally recognized for its forest management certifications, specifically the integration of water services into its ecosystem services certification process.
Ecosystem services certification for water includes impact ES 3.4: Restoration of the capacity of watersheds to purify and regulate water flows, in which the implementation of the theory of change will allow landowners, companies and organizations that follow these requirements, or associate with the initiatives, to display the FSC certification seal.
This initiative reflects the growing understanding that the health of aquatic forest ecosystems is inextricably linked to the health of the planet as a whole. FSC certification for ecosystem services for water is a significant step toward a more sustainable future, where forest management is a global priority.
