Latvian forest owners visited Portugal on a technical tour organized by 2BForest
From May 26th to 30th, 2BForest organized a technical visit to Portugal for a group of Latvian forest owners, an initiative funded by MKPC. Over the course of five days, participants had the opportunity to learn about different Portuguese forest management systems, with a focus on sustainability, innovation, and the valorization of forest products.
The visit included several demonstration fields under the TransForm Agenda's Better Forest Program, highlighting good practices and sustainable forest management solutions, with the support of several entities and companies in the sector.
Day 2 – The Cork Oak and Cork
The first field day was dedicated to cork oak and cork, icons of the Portuguese forest. The visit was supported by Amorim Cork, where participants learned about the cork production cycle and the importance of its sustainable management.
Day 3 – The Pine Forest and the Honey
The second day focused on pine forest and the production of honey. The group visited TransForm Agenda demonstration sites, with input from Carmo Group, of the SERQ and of the Saint Lawrence Honey, learning about forestry practices and the multifunctional potential of the forest.
Day 4 – Forest Investment
The third day focused on opportunities for forestry investment in Portugal. FSC-certified management areas were visited, with demonstrations conducted by certified forestry service providers.
Day 5 – Role and Ecosystem Services
The last day was dedicated to the role of the forest in the production of paper and to the ecosystem services. The group visited the facilities of The Navigator Company and a certified area for Ecosystem Services in Arouca, with the support of AFEDV and of the Municipality of Arouca, reflecting on the balance between exploitation and conservation.
This visit reinforces cooperation in forest development and underscores 2BForest's commitment to promoting sustainable practices and sharing technical and scientific knowledge internationally.
