2BForest marks World Wildlife Day with the Loures Demonstration Camp.
March 3rd is World Wildlife Day, a date that reinforces the importance of biodiversity conservation and the protection of endangered species.
2BForest highlights the Loures Demonstration Field, developed within the scope of the project. LIFE LxAquila – Custody Network for the Conservation of Peri-urban Bonelli's Eagles. This project aims to support local communities, authorities, and experts in the protection of the Bonelli's eagle, a protected species that, in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, lives remarkably close to populations.
In the municipality of Loures, a nest was identified in a peri-urban area, which led to the creation of a conservation area encompassing several properties in its surroundings. This initiative results from the collaboration between... Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA), the Loures City Council, the ICNF and 2BForest.
Through the Better Forest Program, it was possible to give visibility to this case study and promote good forest management practices aimed at conserving the species' habitat. The Demonstration Field highlights the importance of co-management and cooperation between different actors in protecting wildlife in peri-urban contexts.
