Communicating biodiversity to care for the forest: 2BForest takes the Portuguese experience to IUFRO 2026

At a time when forests are facing increasing pressures associated with climate change, wildfires, and land-use transformation, effective communication about biodiversity and ecosystem services becomes essential to promoting responsible and informed forest management.

It is in this context that 2BForest will participate in the international conference of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations, through the presentation “Communicating biodiversity for forest stewardship in Portugal”, led by its Director-General.

The presentation will showcase the Portuguese experience in reconciling forestry production, nature conservation, and land development, highlighting the role of digital tools and modeling in building more adaptive management strategies.

Among the examples presented will be ForestSIM, a solution that allows simulating different management scenarios and translating complex technical results into clear information for decision-makers, managers, and local communities.

Participation will also highlight the ES_Sponsor Project, an initiative that seeks to create new ways to recognize and finance the environmental benefits generated by forests. By bringing together landowners, businesses, and civil society, the project reinforces the importance of communicating the value of natural capital.

By bringing these experiences to an international stage, 2BForest establishes itself as an active partner in building innovative solutions for the future of forests and promoting sustainable management based on scientific knowledge.
