FIRE RES
Combating Extreme Forest Fires
The “Extreme wildfire prevention using ForestSIM®” application was among the top 8 internationally in the “FIRE-RES Open Innovation Challenge” International
FIRE-RES is a European project focused on the integrated management of extreme wildfires, seeking to increase the resilience of landscapes and communities to these events. This project aims to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to prevent, mitigate, and recover areas affected by wildfires.
Living forest, guaranteed future.
As part of the Open Innovation Challenge of the FIRE-RES project, 2BForest proposed developing a communication plan to publicize the fire prevention tools that are present in the ForestSIM® platform, entitled “Extreme wildfire prevention using ForestSIM®”.
ForestSIM® offers a WebSIG service adapted to FSC® and PEFCTM certification standards, including fire records, geographic data with fire hazard and Municipal Forest Fire Defense Plans (PMDFCI).
In order to maximize the use of these tools, 2BForest will develop a communication plan within the scope of FIRE-RES, encouraging the use of ForestSIM® by owners with certified areas.
The 2B_Forest_Group certification group has 18 members owning certified properties in the areas of the FIRE-RES Living Labs located in Lousã and Vale de Souza, totaling 209.17 ha of forest.
Our proposal aims to encourage these members and other entities in the forestry sector to collaborate in fire prevention and make better decisions during forestry planning.
The results of this project will be useful to promote the ForestSIM® platform through an effective communication plan for fire prevention.

of fires
By integrating Prevention & Preparedness, Detection & Response, and Adaptation & Restoration, FIRE-RES aims to minimize the damage caused by fires and maximize the benefits, promoting ecological recovery and landscape resilience.
FIRE-RES is a unique opportunity to transform wildfire management and ensure the protection of communities and ecosystems.
Objectives
Develop strategies to reduce the risks and impacts of extreme wildfires, protecting both landscapes and local communities.
Improve the response capacity of authorities and firefighters, ensuring faster and more effective actions during forest fires.
Promote the training and involvement of local communities, empowering them to deal with fire risks and increase their resilience.
Develop and test new technologies and approaches to fire management, using “Living Labs” to test solutions directly in affected areas.
Project funded by the European Union (European Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, under grant agreement No. 101037419).
