ForestSIM Mobile - Privacy Policy

2BForest ("we", "our", or "us") operates the ForestSIM Mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal data when you use our App. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

3. Data We Collect
3.1 Account Data
When you register, we collect:
- Full name
- Email address
- Password (stored in hashed form via Firebase Authentication – we never see your plain-text password)
3.2 Profile & Application Data
Data you provide or generate while using the App:
- Forum content: topics you create, posts you publish, and reactions you record (likes, dislikes, views)
- Favorites: news articles and forum topics that you mark as favorites
- Quote requests: date, location (district, county, parish), forestry service type, and selected service providers included in quote requests you submit.
3.3 Location Data
With your explicit permission, we collect:
- Precise GPS location (latitude/longitude) to centre the interactive map on your position and to display nearby fire risk information.
- Location is only accessed while the App is in use (foreground only); we do not request background location access.
3.4 Usage & Technical Data
Automatically collected when you use the App:
- Device identifiers used by Firebase services (e.g., Firebase Installation ID)
- App interaction logs collected by Firebase (crash reports, performance data)
- IP address (processed by Firebase and Mapbox during network requests)

5. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party processors who may process your data on our behalf:

Firebase servers are located in the European Union (region europe-southwest1). Mapbox may transfer data outside the EU under Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. Data Sharing
We only share your data in the following circumstances:
- Service providers you select: When you submit a quote request, your name, email, location, and service details are shared with the forestry service providers you have explicitly chosen.
- Legal obligations: We may disclose data if required by applicable law, court order, or regulatory authority.
We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
7. Data Retention
- Account data:: Retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account, which permanently removes your profile and all associated data from our systems.
- Forum posts: Deleted upon account deletion.
- Quote requests: Retained for as long as your account is active.
- Location data: Processed in real time on your device; exact coordinates are not stored on our servers.
- Error and performance logs: Retained by Firebase for up to 90 days.
8. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:
- Access to the personal data we hold about you
- Rectify inaccurate data (you can update your name and email in the Profile screen)
- Erase your data (use Settings → Delete Account or contact us)
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Data portability - receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent for location access at any time via your device settings

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Firebase Security Rules restricting data access to authenticated users
- Password hashing handled by Firebase Authentication
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; however, we make every effort to protect your data using commercially appropriate means.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by displaying a notice in the App or by email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
